The price of the Hermes Birkin 30 Bag is $12,500 USD in 2026, it costs only $10,900 USD in 2018. The retail price is high, but the market afterward is even more impressive. The resale value of a used Hermes Birkin 30 Bag today is $22,000 USD for the Togo leather. So your investment has actually doubled after you walk out of the store. No wonder people wait years to get the classic Hermes bags.
Is a Hermes Bag a good investment? Yes, it is. The bag holds value, and over time it becomes more valuable thanks to the price increase. The price increase only happens once every few years, but sometimes yearly. If you manage to get the iconic Hermes bags, your investment instantly doubles or triples. But often, they will put you on the waiting list – if you’re lucky enough to get on it. I even heard that waiting lists don’t exist anymore.
The limitation of production, the unusually high demand and the resellers that keep buying up the stock – all these factors contribute to the high prices of the iconic Hermes bag. If inflation keeps going up, then the Hermes bag prices in 2026 are going to be cheap compared to future prices.

- The Garden Party and Lindy Bags are very practical for use as an everyday bag
2. Hermes Bag Prices Over The Years
<Expand image >
Hermes prices do not go up every year. The prices were the same from 2015 to 2020. After that, they only increased gradually by 4.4% on average annually. I think Hermes Bags have reached a point where they start pricing out most people, so they started increasing prices slowly. It paints a different picture if we compare the price increases between 2008 and 2015.
The Hermes Birkin bag was retailing for $7,700 USD in 2008. By the end of 2015, the same bag cost $10,900 USD. The price difference is $3,200 USD in 7 years. On average, the price went up 5.1% yearly. I think the Birkin Bag was already expensive in 2008. It didn’t make sense to double it within a few years. It’s better for the price to steadily go up, so people get a sense of urgency – that if they don’t buy it today, next year will be more expensive. When the Birkin 30 Bag reached $10,900 USD in 2015, Hermes calmed down the prices for 5 years.
In 2020, Hermes restarted the price increase. This trend will likely continue for a few more years. We might see the Birkin Bag retailing for $15,000 USD or more in 2030. But how much will this bag go up in price in the secondary market – the pre-owned and reseller market? By that time, the Birkin Bag might cost $40,000 USD or more.
Key points:
- The Hermes Birkin 30 Bag went from $7,700 USD to $11,600 USD between 2008 and 2024
- Hermes paused price increases between 2016 and 2019
- The price increase has started again since 2020 and the trend will continue for a few years
- Hermes increases prices on average 4 – 5% a year
- The Birkin 30 Bag might hit $15,000 USD in 2030 and the secondary market could go up in price even more
3. Where is Hermes Cheaper in Europe?
<Expand image >
In Europe, Hermes is the cheapest in Greece because of the lower prices and high tax refund that you can claim. However, the chances of getting the iconic Hermès bags are slim. Paris has the most boutiques, and Italy is also well stocked. If you’re traveling around Europe, the moment you find your favorite Hermes classic bag, you should purchase it immediately. This will avoid disappointment as the bag might not be available in another country.
The prices of Hermes products are the same in every country that uses the “euro” currency. The cost of your Hermes bag can be greatly reduced by claiming a tax refund. The more expensive your bag, the higher the tax refund you can get. Every European country regulates its own VAT rate – VAT is value-added tax, which is essentially a sales tax on products. So, in which country can you claim the highest tax refund?
You can get a VAT refund of 25% in Greece. Italy has the second-highest VAT rate of 22%. Spain, the Netherlands, and Belgium have a VAT rate of 21%, while France and Austria have a 20% VAT. We can disregard the UK, as it’s no longer part of the European Union and eliminated tax refunds for travelers in 2021.
Key points:
- You can claim the highest tax refund in Greece
- Hermes is also cheaper in Italy, where you can claim 22% VAT back
- The VAT rate ranges between 20 – 21% in Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and France
- It’s recommended to buy a hard-to-get Hermes bag as soon as you find it, even if the tax refund is lower
4. Where is Hermes cheapest in Asia?
<Expand image >
In Asia, I advise you to buy Hermes in Japan because the prices are the lowest. This is due to the favorable currency exchange and the high tax refund. In 2nd place comes Australia and in 3rd place is Korea. I think you’re good to go with any of these three countries. You can also claim back the 10% sales tax.
Hong Kong is actually the most expensive place to buy Hermes, because the city is basically tax-free, but the price is still very high. The stock is also low, I went there several times and I couldn’t find the bag I wanted. The other expensive countries to buy Hermès are Malaysia, Singapore and China.
In order to make this price comparison, we needed to get the latest prices of the different products from 8 Asia countries. Then we compared them one by one to investigate which country has the lowest Hermes prices in 2026. The product Hermes Ulysse PM Notebook Cover is used to create the chart, but the principles are the same. Japan is the cheapest place to buy any Hermes products, whether it’s the bags, small leather goods or other accessories.
Key points:
- Japan is the cheapest place to buy Hermes in Asia
- The 2nd place is Australia and Korea; in both countries, you can claim 10% sales tax back
- It’s not recommended to buy Hermes in Hong Kong
- Malaysia, Singapore, and China are also quite expensive to shop Hermes
5. Which Hermes Bag Is Classic?
Hermes blesses us with many classic bags, but there is definitely a ranking. Some bags are more limited and harder to find, while others are easier. Which handbag is the most classic? It starts with the Hermes Birkin and Kelly Bag. These 2 bags are at the top of the list. Then it follows with the Constance, Lindy, Jypsiere, and Herbag Zip Bag. Because these bags are in the permanent collection, they maintain value and go up in price over time.
If you’re a die-hard fashionista or even follow the fashion world remotely, you’ll surely recognize this brand name. The French manufacturer has been around since 1837 and started making harnesses and bridles for the carriage. Nowadays the company is noted for their glamorous bags, being the icon of high-style, wealth, and success. About the purchase restriction: Buyer restriction by Hermes in Paris is not new; one person can only buy two bags a year. You can have one Birkin or Kelly and the second bag is a free choice.
#1: Hermes Birkin Bag

In 1984 the Hermes Birkin Bag was born. Beginning as a supple leather bag for actress and singer Jane Birkin, the bag quickly rose in popularity and is now the symbol of wealth, class, and fashion. It’s highly recognizable design makes it a staple of the fashion industry and it’s gorgeous craftsmanship gives it the appeal every fashionista dreams about. Every inch of the Hermes Birkin Bag is handcrafted in France, from the gorgeous exterior available in a variety of authentic skins and colors to the roomy, matching interior. The bag boasts saddle stitching which embraces its roots from the beginning of Hermes, back in the 19th century. Finished with a stunning gold (or palladium) plated lock and key, the Hermes Birkin Bag is undoubtedly the staple of success and trend. The Hermes Birkin sizes are numbered in 25, 30, 35 and 40. These are centimeters, so 25 means 25 centimeter. Birkin 50 and 55 are exceptional; they are much larger and best used for travelling instead of shopping or as an everyday bag. Birkin uses calf, crocodile, ostrich and lizard leathers, colors available are white, black, gold, orange, navy blue, olive green, pink, red, brown and baby blue.

There is more demand for Hermes Birkin bag than supply, that’s why they are so-hard to find. Each Birkin is hand-made with impeccable craftsmanship and precision. Hermes personally offers a special treatment for used Birkin bags. They call it the ‘spa treatment’. It is actually a reconditioning service they provide.
#2: Hermes Kelly Bag

The Hermes Kelly Bag is a recognizable elegant bag that is iconic to the Hermes industry. Although created in 1936, the bag didn’t truly become popular until 1956 when Grace Kelly showcased her alluring bag. It was at that moment the Hermes Kelly Bag would rise to its popularity and become the fashion must-have it is today. The bag showcases a sense of undeniable style, yet is notably one of the finer and more sophisticated bags on the market, a bag you carry on your arm to fancy events rather than toying around downtown with your friends. And while the bag is remarkably similar to the Hermes Birkin Bag, the Kelly has its own sense of style with a firmer rectangular shape free of slouching. The Kelly is also handcrafted with a single handle rather than two.
#3: Hermes Constance Bag

The Hermes Constance Bag can easily be noted as one of the most versatile and classical bags by Hermes. It’s gorgeous, unique style can easily be matched with any outfit and can go from an elegant day bag for the office to a whimsical night bag thrown over the shoulder as you trollop through town. Although originally released in 1959, the bag was revamped in 2010 with a longer shape that ladies loved. Both bags continue to hit top of the charts with fashionistas across the world, including top celebrities like Mary Kate Olson, Rachel McAdams, and Nicki Minaj.
#4: Hermes Lindy Bag

First seen in the year 2007, the Hermes Lindy Bag took the fashion world by storm- breaking free from the typical Hermes style and showcasing a more relaxed and whimsical design (while still holding true to the elegance staple of Hermes products). It’s the go-to for ladies who want a fun bag thrown over their shoulder while still maintaining a look of absolute high-style. The bag can also be worn as a tote, making it a versatile and nifty item that should be welcome in any girl’s closet. The modernized style makes it easy to accompany on city streets and the array of color variations makes finding the perfect bag a synch.
#5: Hermes Herbag Zip Bag

Released in 2009, the Hermes Herbag Zip quickly became an ‘IT’ item in the fashion world thanks to its Kelly Bag appearance, yet its remarkably low price. Made of leather and canvas, the Herbag Zip comes complete with a Kelly design with added staple lock closure, yet also comes with a removable zipped pouch and an exterior pocket.
#6: Hermes Jypsiere Bag

Bringing you the gorgeous design of a Hermes bag in a relaxed, comfortable design is none other than the Hermes Jypsiere Bag. The dapper bag comes with all of your favorite Hermes features including stunning hardware and gorgeous bull calfskin, while the casual straps make it the perfect bag for daily affairs. Enjoy a wide interior suitable for all your essentials and take advantage of the handy cellphone pocket.

Hi!
Can anyone inform me the price of constance 18″ and 24″ in market nowsaday? And also lindy clemence 26″ and 30″ and can anyone reference what kind of leather is the best? Thanks
Hi Fie, you can find the latest price on the top, the constance 24′ is Epsom; $9,050 USD (+ tax).
Lindy 26: Clemence; €4300 euro’s
Lindy 30: Clemence; €4800 euro’s
Leather is durable and strong, but it depends on your preference. Clemence is made from the hide of a young bull and it’s softer and squishy.
Hi Alex!
Thanks for your reply..
Can you inform more about constance’s leather. What kind of leather do you suggest to choose and buy..? Im thinking to have one but I have zero information about constance. And which country that offer much cheaper price at hermes store? Paris? Italy? Berlin? Or US? Thanks before 🙂
Generally, the prices are the same in all European countries, but to compare EU with US, it depends on the sales tax. Some US states don’t require you to pay sales tax and in Europe you can get vat-refund.
About the leather, Epsom are usually cheaper, the leather feels a bit like plastic, but it holds shape and are weather resistance. Hermes swift is very soft, it goes well in smaller bags, if you are careful person, the Hermes swift is ideal.
Hi alex!
Can you please help me to chart from
Top to bottom the leathers of Hermes (except exotic ones)? I need more informations about that since I know the ne of leather but I have no idea about the leathers and about the care(maintainance) thanks
The most famous ones:
Togo, baby calf leather
Clemence, young bull leather
Epsom, embossed leather
Fjord, adult cow hide
Evercalf, grain to box
Evergrain, embossed evercalf
There are much more, we will create an one list article later on. But the Constance are usually in Epsom.
Hi Alex,
My husband will be stopping over in frankfurt airport next week. Are prices of the 26 Lindy and 30 Lindy still the same as your previous mail on May 2014 of euro 4300 and euro 4800? Do you think they have stock of lindys in frankfurt airport? Thanks!
The prices should be the same, but I heard they do not hv much choices at the airport, you can call them to check the stock.
Hi! May I call the store and put my name on the wait list because it’s 3 hour drive to the nearest Hermes store in Vienna. Or I have to go there in person?
Hi Martina, I don’t think you can just call, I think they need to mark some information down. But you can try anyway, cause I’ve never heard about calling to get on the waiting list. Keep us informed.
Hello I have a question: Hermes do not produce anymore Kelly 20 or 25?
Thanks so much
Hi Lili, the Kelly 20 is discontinued for as far as I know, it’s a old version. But most people choose the Kelly Pochette instead (hard to get), it’s also called the mini kelly by SA’s.
Hi,
I would like to find out the price of Kelly wallet please? Thanks!
Liy,
Kelly wallet at Eur 2150 (I forgot the exact but definitely below Eur2200/-)
Hi,
Thanks for the update.
Would it be easy to get in hermes store?
chevre vs epsom? Any recommendation?
It won’t have it everyday for sure. I’ve being offered twice during my recent trips in Epsom leather.
Hi Liy, this depends on the leather, the Hermes Kelly Longue wallet was priced £1850 for epsom, £2,040 for evergreen.
Hi alex,
Thanks for the update! 🙂
np, do keep us informed =)
Hello! Can you help me with the price of the evelyne bag? From what I’ve checked online it seems Paris has the cheapest price. 2230 euros for the 33 cm on the website. Can you tell me if this price is inclusive of tax? If so then I can claim my tax on the bag if I buy it from Paris 🙂 also what is your feedback on the bag? It would be my first Hermes (I can’t afford any other Hermes bag!). Would you consider it as good buy?
Thanks!!
Hanadi
Hi Hanadi, the price you spotted on Hermes website is VAT included. And yes, you can claim the tax back of 12 – 13 percent. The price of the bag you spotted is €2.230. The Garden party, Picotin and double sens are in the same price range. I also want you to check out the Hermes Herbag Zip:
http://www.bragmybag.com/hermes-herbag-zip-kelly-bag-twin-sister/
Which is more popular, in your price range, but not easier to get.
Hi Alex,
My friend will be visiting Milan, Venice and Paris this end of May. I ask her to buy me a Lindy. Is it easy to score a Lindy in Hermes store in one of the 3 cities above? If we call the SA first to check is it available, would they hold the item till the day we reach the city? Beside clemence skin, is Lindy also available in Togo? Thank u so much
Hi Jenny, this depends on the SA, some are nice and will mark down your name and number, but I’ve heard some are rejected. But in Europe, it can be done. About the Hermes Lindy, it’s in togo as well as swift. I cannot say much about the stock, but it’s not as hard as the Birkin or Kelly.
Hi Hanadi,
Yes, you can claim back the VAT for Hermes product you buy in Europe. Is 10% VAT refund.
It’s 13% in Italy
Hello all! Can anyone please tell me where is the best price for hermes in europe country ? I’m planning to go there soon! Is it england or france ? Please give me some information. Thank
Hi Tommy. England is not part of EURO. Therefore you cannot be making comparison between England and France. France, Germany, Spain, Italy and few other countries are using EUR. The prices for Hermes products are the same in these countries. The only different is the VAT refund. probably 1% different in the refund amount. 🙂
Hi Alex!
I have decided to bite the bullet and “order” my first Birkin!! At first I liked the Etoupe but dont love the white stitching. So after doing my homework of hours browsing all the pics on internet I will go for the Birkin 30 Etain in Togo leather.
Do u know the latest price of the Birkin 30 Togo or is it still €6200? Also if there is a price increase between the time I put myself on the waiting list and the time Im actually getting the bag, will I have to pay for the actual price or the price they quoted at the time I “order” it?
Thanks so much!!!
Hi Melissa, I think the Etain is a good choice, perfect for daily use. If the Birkin increased in price, you will have to pay the new price, because you are not making an order, but you are on the waiting list. The Birkin 30 Togo is now priced at €6500 euros. When will you get on the waiting list? Keep us updated =) btw where are you from?
Thanks for the price update Alex!! I hope the price will be below €7000 when I finally receive it!
I will put myself on the “wish list” end of May. My goal is to get my first Birkin before my 40th Bday (in 2016)! Considering the waiting it should be OK. CROSSING TOES AND FINGERS!!!
I’m also debating one of the Blue “neutrals” such as Bleu Orage. Think both colors should be OK as a “neutral” first Birkin.
I know that u should build some kind of “relationship” with the SA so my first Hermes order would be one if the bracelet or Twillys, which are the only ones I can afford at the moment.
I’ll definitely keep u posted abt my Birkin adventure 🙂 🙂
I’m from the Netherlands by the way.
About the Blue, here’s a quick guide between Blue de Galice and Thalassa blue: http://forum.bragmybag.com/hermes/hermes-blue-de-galice-vs-thalassa-blue-529.html
Keep us updated, I am also curious whether and how long the waiting list is, you know sometimes SA do have a Birkin in stock, and they get one out from the back, but then it’s take it or leave it, you can’t decide the color or leather.
Melissa,
You can get the bag or order one from any SA in Hermes in the Netherlands? This is different from France. Those who sell scarfs will only serve the section and bag (even for small wallet) serve by bag section SA. If in your country where SA serve all section, it will be good and easier to have good relationship with them though.
Boutiques in Netherlands are soooo small so we dont have an SA for each section. Owise they’ll be bores to death 🙂
Oh and I went earlier for my order: May 8th and put my name for the Birkin 30 Togo in Blue Saphir 🙂 SA told me that Blue Saphir is a season color so I think they will just offer me any dark blue when it becomes available for me.
I hope I’ll get it within a year 🙂 gosh the waiting is already killing me. LOL
Hi Melissa,
At you they put you on waitlist. No way in Asia. SA here said Birkin will be 4 years wait, Kelly will be 3 years. But they also mentioned they can’t even fulfil the list in 2008/2009, they wait is actually more than 5 years. And no more waitlist taken here.
Hope you got your dream birthday present by next year latest.
I regretted never grab the birkin in the store recently!! 🙁
@Xin:
Yes I have heard that the Birkin is almost impossible to get in Asia! Or u have to try the Hermes boutiqe in Paris. Another option would be Hermes reseller in Tokyo L’ecrin! They have lots of Birkins. However, the price range is almost double the price in Europe. For example Birkin 30 is about 13000 Euro. But then you dont have to buy anything else in the shop and you can take it home immediately 🙂 and they have lots of colors available!!
Or you can get a second hand in great condition? Have you tried Designer Vintage? Every now and then they have Birkins in excellent condition!
Maybe thats even cheaper than fly all the way to Paris.
I hope you will get your dream bag soon!
Hi Melissa,
I got the Kelly in Europe in May! So left Birkin to complete my Hermes range.
Yes, L’ecrin has lot of stock but I can wait.
Yes, you do not need to buy anything from the store to get Birkin, Kelly or Lindy in Europe at all. It’s all luck. I walked in the Hermes Shop for the first time in my life in Europe and I got my K. The rest is hubby bought it.
And I got the CDC in Aligator leather as well.
Hi I would like to enquire whats the differences between Clemence or Togo..its my first time purchasing, so hopefully can get a rough idea.
Thank you
I answered this question before, somewhere on this site… but anyway:
Clemence is made from the hide of a young bull while the Togo is made from an adult bull. The difference is actually your personal preference and how you want your bag to feel. You see, Clemence is soft and squishy and it’s also a bit heavier than the togo.
The togo got a crisper feeling, it has better shape because the leather is strong imo. you will also notice the grains (the little dots) to be smaller than clemence. Does this answer your question?
