A little research shows where you can find the cheapest place to buy your Chanel dream bag. A couple percentage discount is already a few of hundred bucks less and you can use the extra money to buy something else, don’t you agree?
Until today, Chanel has increased their prices every year, but when comparing EU, Asia and US, the cheapest place is still Europe. If you are a NON-EU citizen, you can enjoy a whopping 12% tax advantage. And if not, you can still fly over to Heathrow airport and buy in the tax-free area.
Even if we don’t include the EU tax advantage, it still cheaper to buy in Europe, thanks to currency exchange. The price of a Chanel reissue 226 cost €3,450, while you are paying $4,900 in the US (prices from 2012).
Maybe the price differences has to do with the shipping cost, Chanel bags are made in France, Spain and Italy, but to get into the US or Hong Kong, they need be transported. On the other hand, the extreme high-demand on luxury products in Asia are pulling the prices up, people in Hong Kong are willing to stand in line just to get INTO the Chanel boutique. How amazing is that?
Now that might explain the ridiculous prices in Hong Kong. But for me, I love shopping Chanel in France, especially in Paris. It’s like picking your fruit fresh from the tree. And they have 12 boutiques available, with nice and professionally trained SA’s to assist me. I love Chanel and I love Paris!

In general, Heathrow airport don’t sell iconic bags like the classic quilted boy bag as well as the classic flap bag, or the reissue 2.55 bag. They sell iconic bags, stock is lower than the boutiques though. The prices are excluded VAT, which means, you need to deduct 16% from all the euro prices of the link I gave you above.
As far as Gucci, there are no real limitations, so you can check at Gucci official website, check the bags there and the prices in euro deduct 16% to get the price of tax-free Heathrow airport.

Lady Dior Medium Bag is priced at 2900 GBP in London and 3200 euro in France. Both prices are with VAT.
In London you get around 391 GBP tax refund, and in France you get 384 euro tax-refund
The lady Dior Medium Bag price without VAT will be: 2509 GBP in London and 2816 euro in France.
Now convert these prices to your own currency.

For example the Medium Classic Flap Bag:
GBP: 3620 GBP > $4412 USD (converted as per today)
EUR: 4260 euro > $4680 USD (converted as per today)
US: 4900 USD
That is without the tax-refund, so for the GBP and EUR you still need to subtract 12 – 13% tax return.
At Heathrow its even cheaper due to the tax-free area, you are like 16% cheaper than the retail price of 3620 GBP.
Heathrow stock seasonal bags, but no iconics. I am not sure which bag you’re referring to, maybe you can upload a pic, but it doesn’t seem like to be an iconic bag, so they should have it there.

Hi Miriam, for Sweden I would say at Heathrow airport tax-free area or other airports with tax-free. For Shanghai, the program of tax-refund is new, but already implemented. Yes you can get tax refund, to give you an indication, the tax-refund is about 10%.

Heathrow airport is cheaper than in Paris. In Paris you pay the retail price and get 13% tax-refund while at Heathrow the bags excluded taxes are like 16% cheaper than in the retail stores. And you can only get tax-refund in Paris if you are a non-eu citizen

Hi Cynthia, The iconic medium boy quilted bag is not available at Heathrow airport, because Chanel do not sell iconic bags there. I would say, try to purchase in Brussels or Paris, because Asia is a bit more expensive.
