Chanel Price Decrease 2018 In Malaysia Compared To Other Countries

On June 2018, we released an extensive Chanel Price Increase Report with the biggest story about the price decreases in Malaysia due to the elimination of the consumer tax (also known as GST).

But is it cheaper to buy in Malaysia?

That’s the real question ladies. And we’re here to answer it.

The Chanel Price Report 2018 Overview

The prices of the M/L Classic Flap Bags went down by 14%. The prices of the Classic Boy Bags went also down by more than 14%. And we’ve seen the seasonal bags dropping by 5.66 to 6%.

Amazing right? Everything is on sales? We should fly to Malaysia and load up our bags?

Hold right there! Before you go on shopping spree in Malaysia, you need to read this report first in order to discover whether it’s currently the cheapest place to shop Chanel.

We need to do some research right? Shopping ain’t easy, we know.

1. The price research

“Let’s say you’re a true travel girl and wants to fly around the world. You want to know which country is the cheapest to buy Chanel Bags and you’ve heard about the enormous price decreases in Malaysia. If you hop on the airplane to France or Singapore, you’re eligible for tax-refund. But you keep wondering: ‘is it really a lot cheaper to buy in Malaysia today?’. And you wish there was a cheat sheet.”
So how are we going to conduct this research:

  • 1. We are going to compare the prices of Malaysia with the following countries:

2. The Classic Flap Bag Malaysia Price Comparison

Let’s begin with comparing the retail prices versus the prices without Tax.

In the analysis below, we’re going to take the Chanel Small Classic Flap Bag as an example. We’re going to use the current prices as per 30 June 2018 from different countries to do the comparison.

Secondly, the ‘Price Without Tax’ means that the retail prices are deducted from consumer tax through the tax-refund process.

Note that some countries do not allow tax-refund, such as Canada.

2b. Converting the MYR prices

The next thing we’re going to do, is to take the Small Classic Flap Bag in MYR price. Then convert the MYR price into the currencies of other countries.

And use the converted prices to compare with the prices (tax excluded) of other countries.

For example:

The ‘Price Without Tax’ of the Small Classic Flap Bag in Euro countries is €3432 euro.

The current price of the Small Classic Flap Bag in Malaysia is 18220 MYR.

Convert 18220 MYR to euro is: €3875 euro.

2c. The differences and the results

Now to make things more interesting, we’re going to calculate the differences.

As an example:

The ‘Price Without VAT’ of the Small Classic Flap Bag in euro countries is €3432 euro.

The price in Malaysia is 18220 MYR. 18220 MYR converted to euro is: €3875 euro.

    The difference is: €3432 euro – €3875 euro = -€444 euro.

So the conclusion here is: it’s cheaper to buy in euro countries than in Malaysia.

2d. The Classic Bag conclusion

It’s more expensive to buy the Classic Bags in the US than in Malaysia. However, it’s cheaper to buy in euro countries (including the UK) than in Malaysia.

But take also note that there aren’t much differences in prices between China and Malaysia.

We took the Small Classic Flap Bag as example. But this analysis is also an conclusion for all Classic Bags and Accessories. It includes all Classic Flap Bag sizes like the Small, Jumbo, Maxi, XXL and also the Reissue 2.55 in size 224, 225, 226 and 227.

We’re going to take the ‘prices without Tax’ and compare them with the current price in Malaysia.

Before we do that, we need to convert the price from MYR to other currencies first.

For example:

The ‘Price Without Tax’ of the Medium Classic Boy Bag (Old Medium) in Euro countries is €3423 euro.

The current price of the Medium Classic Boy Bag (Old Medium) in Malaysia is 18170 MYR.

Convert 18220 MYR to euro is: €3864 euro.

As an example:

The ‘Price Without VAT’ of the Medium Classic Boy Bag (Old Medium in euro countries is €3423 euro.

The price in Malaysia is 18170 MYR. 18170 MYR converted to euro is: €3864 euro.

    The difference is: €3423 euro – €3864 euro = -€441 euro.

So the conclusion is: The Classic Boy Bags are cheaper in the euro countries than in Malaysia.

3d. The Classic Boy Bag conclusion

Before the price decrease in Malaysia, the Classic Boy Bags were already less expensive in the euro countries and in the UK. Today, it’s still cheaper to buy in Europe.

The price differences between China and Malaysia are about the same. In Singapore it’s only $88 SGD cheaper.

This analysis is about all Classic Boy Bags including small accessories.

4. The Seasonal Bag Malaysia Price Comparison

In calculation of the seasonal bag price comparison, we’re going to take Chanel Small Coco Luxe Flap Bag as an example. The Coco Luxe Bag is from the Spring Summer 2018 Collection.

We’re also going to use the current prices as per 30 June 2018 from different countries to do the analysis.

Just for the clarification, the ‘Price Without Tax’ means that the retail prices are already deducted from consumer tax through the tax-refund process.

In this analysis, we need to compare the current price in Malaysia with the prices (without tax) of other countries. To do that, we need to convert the MYR price into the currencies of other countries.

For example:

The ‘Price Without Tax’ of the Small Coco Luxe Flap Bag in Euro countries is €3862 euro.

The current price in Malaysia is 22200 MYR.

Convert 22200 MYR to euro is: €4719 euro.

The ‘Price Without VAT’ of the Small Coco Luxe Flap Bag in euro countries is €3862 euro.

The price in Malaysia is 22200 MYR. 22200 MYR converted to euro is: €4719 euro.

    The difference is: €3862 euro – €4719 euro = -€858 euro.

So what’s the conclusion? It’s much cheaper to buy seasonal bags in euro countries than in Malaysia.

If you’re hunting for any seasonal bags, do not shop in Malaysia because it’s much more expensive there.

And that despite of the recent price drop? (You ask?)

Yes, but the price drop of the seasonal bags weren’t as high as the Classic Bags remember? It was only 5 – 6%.

    Prices you took are for the small flap not ML. Even so, prices aren’t acurate. Small flap is 6800 in Singapore now. You may want to re-calculate.

    And besides considering VAT, also consider the availability. Doesn’t mean you want to buy, it will be available for you.
