Chanel Price Comparison Europe vs Switzerland

chanel bag prices chf euro

Chanel Bags are getting expensive. We need to find a better way to get a good deal for our hard-earned cash. Especially after Chanel slapped us with a 12%+ price increase in May 2020. So we’re going to do a price comparison that we think will be very useful.

And it might also answer some questions for those that are wondering whether it’s cheaper to buy a Chanel Bag in Europe or Switzerland?

So where to buy?

Switzerland has the lowest VAT

Switzerland has a VAT rate of 7.7%, which is the lowest if compared to other European countries. Most EU countries have a VAT rate that varies from 20% to 25%.

So what does this mean? The higher the VAT rate, the more tax-refund you get. Because Switzerland has the lowest VAT rate, therefore it’s more obvious for most people to shop in Europe.

Foreigners/Tourist should buy in Europe

If you’re a tourist or foreigner in Europe (you hold permanent resident outside the EU), then shopping in EU countries will be the best option for you. Most EU countries have high VAT, which means you can get more money back. Here’s a list of information you can look:

European Citizens should buy in Switzerland

EU citizens can’t apply for tax-refund in Europe, therefore they have to pay the 20%+ taxes for all Chanel Bags. That’s a lot of money.

Is there a way to pay less VAT? Is there a way for European citizens to buy a Chanel Bag cheaper?

Unfortunately, EU citizens have the most disadvantage position when it comes to buying any designer bags. They can’t buy in the US because the prices are higher and there is no tax-refund in most States. The Chanel Bags sold in Asian countries like Japan or Australia are way more expensive than Europe, even when the sales taxes are deducted.

Also, tax-free cities like Hong Kong and Dubai are not cheaper than the retail prices in Europe.

So where should European Citizens shop to buy cheaper Chanel Bags? Where can they find the highest tax-refund?

In Switzerland!

Yes, even tough the VAT rate is only 7.7%, but it’s still a big discount especially if you buy an expensive bag. The more expensive the bag, the higher the discount.

More over, the prices are also subject to currency exchange between euro and Swiss Franc. Currently the currency in Swiss Franc is quite high and I think it will continue to increase.

So the reason to buy in Switzerland is because:

  • You get tax return of 7.7%
  • Currently the currency Swiss Franc is stronger than the euro

The conclusion

So what’s the conclusion here?

If you’re a EU citizen, buy in Switzerland. The higher the price of the Chanel Bag, the more discount you get. If you buy a Chanel Classic Jumbo Flap Bag, you can buy as much as €512 euro cheaper (depending on the currency exchange). And a Chanel Old Medium Boy Bag is €343 euro cheaper in Switzerland compared to Europe.

And if you’re going to travel outside Europe and you happen to fly via Heathrow Airport, then the discount is even juicier. More info you can check here: >Buy Chanel Bag in Heathrow Airport.

If you’re a foreigner like US citizen, then of course buying in Europe is better than Switzerland because of the higher tax-refund. However, as a EU citizen, they don’t have many choices actually.

So what do you think? If you have an question, please drop in the comment section.
