The Reissue 2.55 Bag is the true classic of the house, because it was created by the founder Gabrielle Chanel in the 1920’s. Since then, the 2.55 Bag slowly disappeared from fashion as it was replaced by endless of updated versions. However, the original edition was brought back to life thanks to Karl Lagerfeld in February 2005. Karl studied Gabrielle Chanel’s work and created the exact copy. The release date of the reissue version of February 2005 also happens to be the 50th anniversary of the creation of the original version.

The Reissue 2.55 Bag and the Classic Flap Bag are like siblings, they go hand in hand. So when smooth leather version of the Classic Flap Bag was released, the Reissue 2.55 Bag needed to follow as well.

The smooth leather version (without the quilting) of the Classic Flap Bag is called ‘Chanel Pure Classic Flap Bag’. The smooth leather version of the Reissue 2.55 Bag is called ‘Chanel Nude Reissue 2.55 Bag’.

There are a few more general details we need to share. The Nude Reissue 2.55 Bag is a not new bag; the first version was released in the Pre-Fall 2016 Collection. Since then, the style was temporary discontinued until the Pre-Fall 2018 Collection. And it’s not a coincidence that it was reintroduced for the Pre-Fall season. And who knows, this bag might get discontinued again and re-released two years later for the Pre-Fall 2020 Collection.

The Reissue 2.55 Nude Bag comes in two versions. One is the basic edition; the second one is slightly more luxurious. We will make a comparison later on.

The Design

So what makes the ‘Nude’ version different than the ‘Quilted’ version? Well first of all, it’s the leather. The classic edition of Reissue 2.55 Bag in diamond quilted is built from aged calfskin. The nude edition of the Reissue 2.55 Bag is made from smooth calfskin.

The leather is very important because it changes the experience of the bag. The diamond quilting feels busier, sophisticated and more classic, it can also attract more attention. The smooth leather version is more humble, quiet, relaxing and less busy. Choose the one that fits to your personality and taste.

Besides these two important adjustments, the Nude Reissue 2.55 Bag hasn’t changed in shape and measurement. The critical components like the Mademoiselle Lock, jewel-like double chain as well as the back pocket remained in tact.

The Special Edition Of The Nude Reissue 2.55 Bag

There is a unique version of the Nude Reissue 2.55 Bag. This style is embellished with multicolor sides in blue and red, designed with different material. The side is also refined with a thinner version of a necklace-like chain for decoration purpose. This chain is smaller than the shoulder chain strap.

As a side note; this special edition has been reintroduced for the Pre-Fall 2018 Collection. And to contribute to the Paris-Hamburg theme, it’s embellished with two beautiful charms. One is an anchor and it represents Hamburg’s famous port.

The interior is the same as the original version of the Reissue 2.55 Bag. There is a front pocket behind the flap and a main compartment.
