First the Chanel price increases gave us an heart-attack. Then Chanel decided to stop stocking iconic bags at airports. And when that’s not enough, they started to harmonize the prices around the world.
The storm is over right? Well, not yet I am afraid.
We received a special message from Coco a few days ago, but we wanted to verify the information before posting on our site. And it’s so-true what she shared.
Coco: ‘There has been an update of the repair policy at the Chanel boutique. I was there on Oct 8 2015 to pick up my bag after dropping it for cleaning. They did an excellent job on it. It felt and looked new! It was a pre-owned pink lambskin boy bag. It had scuffs and dirt on it and cost about $290 ish… This is my second pre-owned bag they serviced. I just love getting it done at the boutique. Because, you get a dust bag and box if yours didn’t come with one. And a cute Chanel bag if you pick it up at the boutique. But now I won’t be able to enjoy the service anymore.

‘She told me of the new policy of the repair service offered at the boutique.
1. You have to show a proof of purchase from a boutique.
2. It has to be within 5 years from the purchase of the item.
And these new conditions sucks because now I can’t take my pre-owned items there!’.
So what now? What if you got a Chanel bag that’s more than 5 years old? Well, you will need a 3rd party company to help you fix that.
And suddenly buying used Chanel bags or vintage Chanel bags aren’t very attractive anymore. What if your chains fall off, what if the clasp is broken? Is there a company to repair it and will it delivered the same quality as Chanel.
So we’re dealing now with Chanel bags that increase in prices every year versus new repair policy. Let us know what you think?

If you want a chain repaired or a clasp needs repair on handbags that are over 5 years old, those repairs policies have not changed. The only changes to the repair policy are for refurbishing and refinishing on Chanel handbags that are over 5 years old. You are also correct regarding the proof of purchase for handbags needing repair.
Price vs quality
As we all know, Chanel price increases every year, sometime twice a year. However, I don’t believe their product quality is going up. It is actually going down. I bought a brand new WOC 3 weeks ago. After 10 days, the chain fell off even when I used it carefully. I couldn’t believe that such a $2,300 for a small bag could have such a poor quality. It’s Chanel right? My LV and Gucci bags are cheaper with higher quality. I could carry more personal stuff, book and for some bag even my laptop can be carried easily. It’s funny that because LV and Gucci is not luxury in Asian mind set somehow and that’s why they start buying Chanel, Dior and Hermes in stead
My boyfriend starts hating Chanel. I told him to chill out because Chanel will always repair their bag. Well, not anymore. After reading this news, I will reconsider my next bag. If it’s a LV bag, I don’t have to worry about repair policy.
Chanel really disappointed me. Dior is a nice alternative, isn’t they?

where should i get chanel bags for the lowest price (VAT/currency)?
i will arrive in heathrow airport, theres a chanel store there right? i know it will only be selling seasonal items but may i ask if i buy when i arrive there and buy the chanel bag and bring out of the airport, am i liable to pay GST for the bag? because in sg, if you buy these goods when u arrive in SG airport and once u bring out of the airport, u have to pay gst. is that such rule as well over there?

Hi Charlene, for the lowest price is Heathrow airport. Because all the bags are excluded from taxes and you do not need to apply for tax-refund, which includes administration fee.
About Heathrow, suprisingly they do have timeless bags like WOC and so on. Also the Chanel grand shopping tote bag was seen there too.
When you get the bag in Heathrow, you don’t need to pay the GST (in Europe its called VAT). It doesn’t make sense for you to pay the VAT when you get out of the airport and then apply for tax-refund (VAT-refund) again.
