The Prada Saffiano Tote Essentials: By Ame from Singapore

Once upon a time Ame had the Prada Saffiano tote on her wish list. And now she proudly owns one. Yes, it’s the classic version in black. She is from Singapore and her wildest dream is to own a store filled with pretty dresses and various knick knacks that she discovers while traveling around the world. Her addictions? You may have guessed it, shopping spree veteran and a travel junkie.

Today Ame is sharing her deepest secret with us. She is going to open her bag and let us dig inside to see all her essentials.

Ame, can you name these items?
1. Samsung S3 Phone
2. Kindle Paperwhite (I am literally addicted to this thing)
3. Prada Wallet
4. Canon G11 Camera (It’s an oldie but a goodie)
5. Kate Spade Sunglasses
6. Dior J’adore Perfume
7. Chanel Lipstick in Monte Carlo
8. Laura Mercier Lipstick in Bare Lips
9. Bath & Bodyworks Hand Sanitizer
10. L’occitane Hand Cream

Can you tell us why these are your essentials?
My Samsung phone is pretty self-explanatory. I’m lost without it. Although I have to say that you can’t see it from the picture but my power button fell off recently. My friends are like who loses a power button from a phone? And I agree with them wholeheartedly. These unbelievable situations are usually reserved only for me. The other gadgets I carry around are my Kindle and my camera which come in handy when I am bored (which happens quite often).

I don’t carry many beauty related items because I’m just too lazy to powder my nose when I’m out. I usually just carry the lip products I’m currently using that day. These days, I often reach for my Chanel lipstick in Monte Carlo which is the perfect Spring colour or a basic nude lip colour by Laura Mercier. I also bring along my favourite perfume, J’adore by Dior, because it picks me up during the day. I also use it to spray the faces of stinky people I meet on the train. I’m kidding. I don’t do that.

The Prada wallet that I own I got from a factory outlet in Milan months ago. I fell in love with it even though I don’t really like the colour red. It was literally one of those love at first sight moments. I still carry it with me now even though it’s pretty scratched up.

How did you pick the Prada Saffiano tote?
I think I saw someone carrying the bag online and I just wanted to have it so badly. I hesitated actually purchasing the bag because of the hefty price but I remember thinking of the bag constantly for months. I was on a holiday in Paris and stopped at a Prada store to take a look at the Saffiano tote again. I put it on my arm and realised this bag is never going to leave my arm again.

I’m actually quite happy I purchased it because it’s the first designer bag I own and I bought it with my own money. It’s definitely an investment but it’s a proud moment for me too. Cue the dramatic music.

Which clothing styles matches to your saffiano tote?
I think the Saffiano tote is pretty versatile meaning you can dress it up or carry it to complete a casual outfit. Right now I’m thinking skinny jeans, ballet flats, a luxe white tee and a printed scarf would go well with the bag.

Do you have more handbags on your wish list?
I do! I am eyeing Mulberry’s Bayswater because I think it’s the perfect everyday bag. I also love Givenchy’s Nightingale as it has just the right amount of slouchyness (this is not a word. I made it up) to it. Of course, Chanel’s 2.55 reissue 226 bag remains at the top of my list.

Any recommendation for the first-time designer handbag buyers?
This sounds obvious but you have to love the bag. Hear me out. Some people say you should buy this designer bag because it’s the ‘it’ bag of the season. Then there are others who say your first designer bag should be black as it’s a classic colour and goes with anything. You shouldn’t listen to anyone except yourself. Especially if you’ve saved up your own money to buy the bag. If you’ve got your eye on something and you love it to death, go on and get it.

Thank you so much Ame for this interview. It was really valuable. Any questions for Ame or about the Saffiano tote can be posted below in the comment sections.
