It’s a battle of bag (and brand) supremacy today, as we face-off two of the most established handbags in the history of high fashion – the Louis Vuitton Epi Cluny versus the Saint Laurent Moujik Bag. Two equally gorgeous arm candies vying for a spot in our hearts…with a structure that’s unmistakably so similar, what makes them stand-out from one another? Tune in as we dig deeper into the details.

Round 1: Crunching numbers

First, we’ve got to come clean with the details – the Epi Cluny (for reference, we are using the standard Cluny MM), a classic favorite, measures around 12.5″ x 9″ x 4.9″ inches (L x H x W). On the other hand, the Moujik measures around 12.1” x 9.4” x 5.5” inches (L x H x W), which barely makes it a bit bigger. A little space wouldn’t hurt, though. For this round, the Moujik emerges as the obvious winner, by a close call.

Round 2: Material

Both of these babies are structured bags, which make the designs streamlined. The Moujik is a pretty piece which is made of calf leather, which is known for its softness and fine grain. Very durable, indeed. Meanwhile, the Epi cowhide leather which LV is known for is grained and textured, and is equally easy to maintain. Although it’s basically anyone’s game, we decide that the Epi Cluny stands out at this point – the unique characteristic of the material had us sold.

Round 3: Nitty-gritty details

The Epi Cluny and Moujik are both winners in the minimalist department, because most of the time, less is more. Both of them have magnetic snap closure, and extra compartments for you to store your valuables.

Although we would like to point out that at this round, the Moujik caught our eyes with the subtle details – with a removable metal padlock and leather-encased keyring, we just find this Saint Laurent favorite too irresistible. On the other hand, the Epi Cluny decides to keep it on the low with minimal silver hardware, which is beautiful too. Obviously, we have to give this round to the Moujik.

Round 4: Color-coded

The availability of colors and variations of a bag are important too – it makes us consider a wise purchase from an obvious flop. In this round, the Epi Cluny gives us more choices – with four great colors to choose from (Grenade, Rosa Ballerine, Dune, and Noir). The Moujik comes in two basic colors (Black and Lipstick Red), and even a variation that has a front flap with an embossed crocodile effect. And because we love our bashful neutrals, this round goes to the Epi Cluny.

Round 5: Pricetag

The Epi Cluny MM is priced at $2870 USD or €1980 EUR, while the Moujik sells at $2490 USD up to $3850 USD for the embossed crocodile variation. This round, we’ve declared a draw between both bags, since the differences in material and fluctuations of currency and rates make it difficult to determine a winner.

At this point, the decision is up to you. So, have you determined your next purchase? Comment below to let us find out what you think!
