Are Chanel Prices In Hong Kong And US The Same?

This question comes to my attention often, so I decided to just write a post about it. I would also like to know the reason why the Chanel prices differ from country to country. I decided to compare the Chanel handbag prices in Honk Kong with the prices of the bags in the United States. The price differences surprised me, to say the least. This is what I discovered in my search:

Since there is no VAT on the Chanel handbags in Hong Kong, it is common to think that the handbags are much cheaper. This is not the case, however. The Hong Kong Chanel bags are actually much more expensive.

Chanel handbags are produced mainly in France, and Italy. The cost to export the bags from these countries to the US and to HK should be around the same price. Right? Both places are located on either side of the world. Therefore, the cost to transport the bags should not make a huge difference in how the overall prices of the bags.

Why is Chanel More Expensive in Hong Kong?

If you’ve ever travelled to Hong Kong, you’ll see that most of the locals are crazy about European labels. People stand in lines down the block just to visit a Louis Vuitton shop. The love for Chanel is just as great in HK as it is in the US and in Europe.

Since there are less Chanel shops in Hong Kong than there is in the western world, the demand is higher. With a high demand, the Chanel handbags in HK are considerably more expensive than in the United States. Even the wealthy people of China look to invest in products from Chanel. With this type of demand, the label can take the opportunity to hike up the prices a bit.

If you’re ever in Hong Kong and decide to purchase a Chanel handbag, think twice about it. Not only are the prices higher, but they’re not tax deductible.

Let me know what you think about the varying prices of Chanel.

This article must be old. My Boy bag retailed for US$400 less in HK than in USA. Add on 9% New York sales tax I would have paid in the USA: I netted a total savings near $900.

I had a bag shipped from Canada to US. I paid a bit more because of the currency difference USD for the PST. And don’t forget the customers, I hate the customs!

Hong Kong is more expensive simply because there is more demand, there are billions of people living in china alone. they all come to hk to buy chanel, lv, hermes and all of that expensive stuff
