STYLEMYBAG: Stripe It Up

This week I hook up with Nicole. She is a 20 something-year old blogger at bffbync and love fashion. I took notice of her blog post ‘striped dress’ and made me wonder how she mixed her style with handbags. So I took her for an interview for how to style your bag.

Where are you from?
I’m originally from Honolulu, Hawaii, moved to Los Angeles for college, and loved it here so much, I decided to stay, in hopes of developing my career in fashion.

What are your dreams?
As a young child, I wanted to do things that pleased others, but growing up, I dream of doing something that I love—developing a career I love, and growing with that career choice. Presently, I’m living my dream, and following my passion. I work in the fashion industry, and also, on the side, enjoy blogging about various fashion trends, outfit combinations, and my favorite, the latest it bags!

How do you describe your fashion style?
My style leans more towards the conservative side. I try to add a hint of chic, while staying true to classic pieces.

Which bags are your favorite?
My favorites are the Classic Jumbo Chanel because it goes with almost everything, and never ceases to spruce up your outfit, Celine’s luggage tote, because it has such a gorgeous face and shape, and lately, I catch myself carrying my Fendi 2Jours everywhere.

What do you think are ‘must have’ bags for any girls?
I think all girls should have a good shoulder bag, something like Chanel’s Classic bags, a roomy tote, for day adventures, and a classy clutch that can transition you from brunch to dinner.

I took notice of your look ‘striped dress’. How does the colors of the dress, shoes and bag matches?
I like playing with colors—it makes an outfit much more lively and multi dimensional. For my striped dress look, I picked a neutral colored bag—a tan Fendi Peekaboo, because the outfit was more casual chic, and patent maroon shoes, that added just the right amount of color!

What styles in your wardrobe would you choose to combine with the Chanel Jumbo classic bag in black?
Chanel bags literally go with anything! I catch myself wearing t shirt and jeans, while toting chanel’s classic bag, cute dresses for brunch, cocktail dresses, business suits, etc. I currently live in LA, and though I don’t do this myself, I’ve seen women carry their Maxi’s and Jumbos to the gym with them (not something I recommend tho).

Any advice for the first time Chanel classic bag buyers?
I would suggest sticking to black first, then after you build your collection, you can branch out and try different colors. I would also pick caviar leather. I’m a clumsy person, and I feel so heartbroken when I see scratches all over my bag—the caviar leather is really indestructible. So, if you want a bag that will last you, go with black caviar!

What is the most important thing you look for when purchasing a brand-new bag?
When purchasing a bag, its not about buying the latest it bag, its about finding a bag that suits you and your needs. Always keep that in mind first before running off to buy something everyone has.
Bag size depends on woman’s height? What do you think?

I think you should pick a bag that fits you. For example, I wanted to buy Celine’s luggage tote in the mini size, however, both my mom and I agreed it looked huge on me—the bag covered half my body, and I also really didn’t need a bag that big. Just pick a bag that looks good on you.

Any other fashion advice?
When it comes to fashion, you get so many inputs all over, and are influenced by so many things, ranging from magazines, celebrities, to even the fashion you see everyday. I think the most important tip I can give is to simply stay true to yourself and pick things that you truly like and not outfits/trends that others are wearing! That way, you’ll carry yourself with more confidence and grace!
