Is Chanel Handbags Worth Buying?

As the years fly by, the value of Chanel handbags are constantly rising. In 2010, an average Chanel bag cost around $2400. Currently, a bag of that price values at around $4900. That is more than two times the initial investment. So, really, there’s no reason not to purchase a Chanel handbag if you’re considering it.

I know the question we’re all wondering is why these bags are so valuable.

Line-2

Even with a little wear and abuse from the elements, the bags still soar in value. From everyday use, to coffee spills with the right tender, love, and care the bag will be looking good as new again. Just applying and rubbing a little saddle soap will have your Chanel bag back in action.

With the awesome value increase, a Chanel handbag is a superior investment to Facebook stocks, a new Audi A3, and even your savings account. Within the past six months, Facebook stock has continuously decreased in value. It’s fallen 20% since last month. A brand new Audi A3 loses 30% of its value as soon as you drive it off the car lot. And the average 4% interest rate of your savings account has nothing on value increase of Chanel.

Every lady just loves Chanel. The brand represents a certain type of status, and the more expensive they are the higher the value increase. When the price increases, the demand for the handbag skyrockets. It tends to go up even more when the supply is low. No wonder the value of the handbag increases with time.

Should You Buy One?

If you would love to see your money increase, then it would be an awesome investment. If you decide to sell your handbag to a consignment store, they’ll most likely give you more than what you paid for. Even if the bag has some wear and tear, you’ll probably get $1,000 more than what you initially paid for it.

Considering the increasing value and status that comes with the bag some ladies may never sell their Chanel handbag. An awesome idea that some may consider is to keep the bag in the family. Passing your Chanel handbag down to the next generation would probably one of the best gifts a young woman could ever receive. Just imagine the value of the bag in about 20 years, if the price continues to increase the way it has been.

  1. I disagree with the quality of Chanel. I purchased a Chanel Sac Rabat in 2012 when I went to Paris. I’ve only worn it a few times (less than 10X) because I have a lot of bags that I switch around. That was my first Chanel bag so I babied it. I didn’t put much inside when I carried it (keys, cellphone, small, thin wallet). To my disappointment, the bag sagged!! It lost its shape! I sold it. Second issue with Chanel… I own a vintage watch (’90s). Got it service at Chanel and I paid $550. When I picked up my watch, they just handed it to me. No watch pouch traveler whatsoever! I felt it was so tacky and cheap on Chanel when I inserted my watch in my receipt folder! (I was wearing my Cartier watch at that time that’s why I just placed it in their folder) He just looked at me. Although his face looked embarrassed. I probably wouldn’t have thought much about it if I didn’t go to Cartier the same day to get one of the links taken off so it fits me better. Cartier did not charge me and they gave me a travel watch pouch!!

Having said that…. When I sold my bag, I received $300 more than what I paid for (purchased in 2012, sold in 2015). I’m seriously considering buying a double flap caviar because to me it is just so beautiful. My concern is, Chanel will no longer do a spa treatment on bags that are more than 5 years old and it must be accompanied by an original receipt from a Chanel Boutique or authorized Retailer. They will still do repairs but not spa treatment or refurbishing.

Last but not least!! My sister gave me her old used Hermes Garden Party Bag. It has an “S” mark on the inside of the bag. I read that these are bags that did not pass their Quality Control and somehow my sister’s friend managed to get a hold of one and eventually sold it to my sister. Long story short, 3 women (including myself) owned the bag. I swear, I can probably run it over with my car and it would still be just as good. It is a work horse! I put water bottles, laptop and i-pad, notebooks, makeup pouch all at the same time and the leather doesn’t stretch. NOTHING! Now I understand why Hermes are bags that can be passed on to generations to come. Plus at the moment, they’ll do the spa treatment, repair the bag for a lifetime (with a fee). Expensive bag but oh my, the quality is unsurpassable!!

    • Wow, what a story. I read it diligently. Chanel is trying reach Hermes level by increasing the prices. Just increasing their prices, they need to do something with the quality too.

Besides of the spa treatment, I would say that the double caviar Classic Flap Bag is still a good investment now. Especially if it increases in price. If you dont’ like it, you can still always sell it.

  2. This is all a lie and a manipulation. No bag should cost more than what some families will need to live on for months!
I like them, but I won’t pay these prices because I see it as obscene! Yes, I’m a professional and I have a disposable income but I’m not stupid…or obscene.

    • Actually, it is an amazing investment that will last a life time. It’s not for everyone due to the price but if anyone is finding themselves going through bags once a year, add that up for the next 30 years and $5000 is well worth it. I been on both side of the spectrum and I use my bag EVERY DAY and the quality is out of this world. if you own a authentic Chanel bag you would not have anything negative to say because you know it’s worth what it’s worth for a reason. You don’t need 10, just 1 or 2 and your good but if you can afford a whole closet..that’s amazing!! Pass it down to the kiddies or sell it to get the value back. There are options and value does not decrease much. But don’t confuse Chanel with Channel that is made in China. LOL.
